Super excited to find this White-lined Sphinx moth caterpillar on some California native plants in our back yard pollinator garden! #moths #pollinatorsWelcome #wildones #homegrownnationalpark #dougtallamy
Oh my God, I found the bumblebees! There are dozens of them in my eastern crack-willow (Salix euxina). Its not blooming anymore, nor are there aphids on it so I wondered what on earth are they doing there.
But then I noticed there are some kind of dried liquid markings on the leaves and the bumblebees are licking them. It seems the leaves have for some reason pushed out some sugar which now is a buffet for the cuties
My pollinator-mix finally blooms! I wish there were more bumblebees and bees though. The visitors at the moment are mostly hoverflys. Don't get me wrong, I love the little helicopters, but I'm not sure how important pollinators they are
