Has CCleaner by Piriform become malware? I haven’t used Piriform apps myself for years, but today I did a tech support call for a business where the CCleaner window popped up without them requesting it, and they couldn’t get it to close. I could only stop it via Task Manager, and then I uninstalled it.

#Ccleaner caught in another scandal. This time it isn't #malware in the supply chain. It's only casually forcing an update to the latest version in addition to resetting #privacy settings and sending user data back to #Avast and #Piriform. Not a good look. #infosec

CCleaner Disregarding Settings and Forcing Update to Latest 5.46 Version

Reports are coming in that Piriform is forcing CCleaner to update to the latest 5.46 version even when users had configured the program to not perform automatic updates. To make matters worse, once the users were upgraded to the latest version, their privacy settings are reset to default, which is to send usage data.

Pas mal le "load balancing" de #Piriform en faisant deux pages quasiment identiques, juste avec la cible du lien de #Ccleaner qui change pour pointer vers Filehippo en ajoutant "?upgrade" dans l'URL 😂
