It remains such a delicate, bluesy and incredible beautiful tune.

I Belong To A World That's Destroying Itself. Aka Revenge by Annette Peacock, released in 2014 on Ironic Records (and originally in 1971 on Polydor)

Review by Thom Jurek

Recorded live in various studios in 1968 and 1969 (written and arranged completely by Peacock), this is one of, if not the, very first record to feature a Moog Synthesizer modulating lead vocals. The rough recording aspect -- understandable given technological limitations at the time -- is actually a boon to this version; it is remarkably fresh, raw, energizing, and prophetic even now... The testifying title track is an environmental anthem that demands a return to natural sources; its poetry is just as bracing in the 21st century, and absolutely free of idle sentiment. The gospel stomp of the B-3, electric bass, and breaking drums frame her distorted vocal, adding primal urgency and steely poignancy...

Bill Evans and Paul Bley mix it up together on George Russell’s “Chromatic Universe,” and the results are brilliant.

Sonny Meets Hawk! is a 1963 album by jazz saxophonist Sonny Rollins, with Coleman Hawkins appearing as guest artist. It was recorded at RCA Victor Studio B in New York City on July 15 and 18, 1963. The album features some of Rollins's most avant-garde playing.

The album marks the first time the two saxophonists had entered a recording studio together, although they had appeared on stage together briefly that same year at the Newport Jazz Festival. - Wikipedia

Curious what this is. Paul Bley always sounds promising. The other ones I don’t know, yet.

Jazztodon artist of the week: Paul Bley! A legendary leader of the jazz avant-garde, pianist Paul Bley (1932–2016) cultivated his own musical vision and influenced a generation of performers. Throughout his life, he remained on the cutting edge of creative music.

"There was an article in Down Beat in something like 1954 in which I mentioned that jazz had reached a crisis, and that the AABA form had too many As, and not enough CDEFG. So I began working with groups where we would play totally free, and that led to a kind of a dead end, because 'totally free' didn't necessarily allow you to continue. A totally free piece is a totally free piece, end of concert." Coleman showed a way out of this impasse: "He suggested ABCDEFGHIJK, in which repetition was anathema… It wasn't totally free because totally free was A forever, metamorphosing. It was a form that took hold, because you could finally return to the written music, and the audience had something to hold on to."
