Una decisione quella di Sanchez che ha spinto altri in Europa a trovare il coraggio di seguire il suo esempio. È il caso dell’Austria. Il governo di Vienna ha affermato di aver rifiutato tutte le richieste statunitensi di sorvolare il suo territorio.
La motivazione risiede nella neutralità dell’Austria
Il governo austriaco ha dichiarato ieri all’Afp di aver respinto tutte le richieste statunitensi di sorvolo militare del suo territorio sin dall’inizio del conflitto in Medio Oriente, adducendo come motivazione la propria neutralità. “Ci sono state effettivamente delle richieste, e sono state respinte fin dall’inizio”, ha dichiarato all’Afp il colonnello Michael Bauer, portavoce del Ministero della Difesa austriaco, aggiungendo che “quando si tratta di un Paese in guerra, la richiesta viene respinta”. “Non ci serve il vostro l’aiuto”, era stata la replica della Casa Bianca alla decisione del premier socialista. La posizione di Madrid, maturata dopo settimane di negoziati con Washington, si fonda sulla mancanza di copertura giuridica internazionale all’intervento militare, in assenza di un mandato di Onu, Nato o Ue.
