Yesterday I finally watched a movie in my Kanopy watch list (thanks to my local library for offering this service). The Bookshop was a very interesting film. Bill Nighy and the lead girl in particular were amazing in it! I couldn't quite read the emotions of the lead actor, but I think that was intentional from the director.
At first, I was discounting it as being a spinoff of Chocolat. But then it went in quite a different direction. And one red herring early in the show had a satisfying payoff, as well as who exactly the narrator was (not revealed until the last gasps of the show).
One the stranger double bills possible, but there ended up being an odd through-line of Judaism.
The documentary covered a topic of which I was previously aware: the American Bund, dedicated to the promotion of NAZI ideals in the USA prior to WWII. What I didnโt know was the extent of their coverage in the nation. As is pointed out narratively, just because the movement is gone doesnโt mean the people or spirit has disappeared. All too prescient.
Highly recommended.

The feature film was simply lovely. A sweet tale of family conflict finally resolved, with humour and heart. Grand stuff, perfect for a low-energy night.
Worth your time.

So politics aside, if you have a library card/membership in Canada, UK, Australia, New Zealand and the US, you should have access to KANOPY which is a streaming service. (apparently a uni ID also works?) You get access to popular, classic and international movies, tv shows and documentaries of all varieties. *Note that it does operate on a token system ie you get 12 tokens per month and each movie etc has it's own rating as to how many tokens it takes to stream. Plus you get 72 hrs access to the item.
Every Wed/Thursday new items of all types and genres are added to the inventory.
There are a host of Korean language movies on KANOPY with dramas now slowly trickling in as well.
There are works with many familiar faces like Gong Yoo, Oh Jung Se, Lee Byun Hun, Song Kang Ho, Park Bo Young, Hwang Jung Min, Jo In Sung, Jang Hyuk ๐ and more.

Way too many ad breaks in this Pluto TV "Three Days of the Condor" presentation. I should've looked to see if I could get it on Kanopy or Hoopla, but I have a certain level of respect for whomever decided to put one of the ad breaks in the middle of the weird sex scene.
That's extremely funny!
