(Typing this while I set up in-laws new laptop because it had to be done the minute I entered the house). Going to say sod it and make at least a quick visit to my patch tomorrow first thing.
Woke up at 0400. Again. At 0530 decided to get up and walk down to my patch for some birding. 40 minutes of things not-quite-going-right, phone and watch both uncharged, field guide not in bins bag, water bottle hiding, etc etc. Pushed through, opened the front door and discovered it is raining stair-rods and I some how haven't noticed. 0610 decided it was time to give up and read at book!
Heavy rains over the weekend have flooded this path through Fishlake Meadows nature reserve. Increased level of birdsong even during the day, with chiffchaffs & wrens singing every few yards. Buzzards mewing & displaying overhead. Water rails screeching from the reed beds.
15 species this morning on my birding walk with small fry. hampered by not going able to stand still for more than 5seconds and the places I can walk with the buggy.
Still, added great black-backed gull to 2023 list for 31spp. on patch.
