Under embarassing #Federal judicial oversight due to rampant police misconduct uncovered in a horrendous 2003 #scandal, Oakland #California police were due to emerge renewed 5 years later after a period of reforms ...this apparently
did not happen, and federal #oversight continued.
A "monitor" was appointed back then (who lately hasn't even visited the #Oakland #Police department in over 5 years), and since then, many mayors, and an ever rotating cast of nearly a dozen ousted dept chiefs and add'l #interim administrative overlords came through city, while budget cuts severely impact staffing and compliance during constant #crime waves.
Unfortunately sad and disturbing #lawenforcenent #scandals kept coming over past decades, and in 2025 many citizen observors wonder how, when or even "if" the #OPD agency can ever emerge on its own ?
