Levka"The Ivy Room, a beloved East Bay dive bar and music venue frequented by Green Day’s Billie Joe Armstrong, announced it is cutting ties with one of the world’s largest alcohol conglomerates after Diageo ended its sponsorship of San Francisco Pride.
'(W)e just can’t support a company that makes business decisions based on hatred,' the Ivy Room posted Monday, April 14, on Facebook, saying it will no longer carry Ketel One vodka, Tanqueray gin, Bulleit and Johnnie Walker whiskeys, Captain Morgan rum, and other popular labels.
Diageo, which owns more than 200 brands and operates in nearly 180 countries, confirmed it had made 'some changes' to its sponsorship budget but noted it is still backing a smaller Pride event in Long Beach.
The alcoholic beverage company did not immediately return a request for comment.
Diageo’s exit comes amid a broader corporate retreat from LGBTQ+ sponsorship.
Suzanne Ford, executive director of San Francisco Pride, confirmed several longtime supporters — including Meta, Comcast and Anheuser-Busch — pulled roughly $300,000 in funding this year, despite long-standing relationships with the organization.
Ford attributes the exodus to a shifting political climate under the Trump administration, which has aggressively dismantled diversity and LGBTQ+ protections."
