“But what do you want from me? Get lost in the…”: a heated argument breaks out live between Lovati and Bruzzone over the money paid by the Sempio family.
A poisonous clash unfolded live on camera for “Quarto Grado” between criminologist Roberta Bruzzone and lawyer Massimo Lovati, former defense attorney of Andrea Sempio. The confrontation between the two escalated last Friday, during the last episode of Rete 4’s program, to the point where presenter and journalist Gianluigi Nuzzi had to intervene and cut Lovati’s microphone, the guest in the studio, after the strongly worded words he directed at Bruzzone, who was instead on a live connection.
Bruzzone’s Demands
The tension exploded while in the studio they were discussing the new trend linked to the Garlasco case and, in particular, the story of the alleged money paid by Andrea Sempio’s family and collected by the former lawyers of the new suspect in the crime against Chiara Poggi. A thorny issue that degenerated into a dispute in just a few minutes. The dispute was triggered by Roberta Bruzzone’s request, who demanded an accounting from Lovati of the amounts received by the lawyer during the period he defended Sempio. These figures, which would have fluctuated between €45,000 and €60,000, would have been handed over in cash to Sempio’s lawyers, who would then have divided the money among themselves. Bruzzone pressed the lawyer, asking him if he considered it normal not to account for the activities performed for his former client.
The Exchange Between the Two
In response to this legitimate request, Lovati replied: “I keep my own things close to me, Bruzzone!” Bruzzone then pressed him saying: “I don’t think he did, but they weren’t his, he should have accounted to the client for the money he paid!” The criminologist also accused the lawyer of not producing any accounting of the defense activity. Lovati, visibly agitated, responded: “What do you want from me?” “Maybe that you, like all of us, pays taxes,” Bruzzone replied, receiving in response: “Let him pay, do as you want.” The exchange then degenerated: “What do you want, for 15 thousand euros I worked for a year and a half! Go get yourself…“, these were Lovati’s words that led Nuzzi to cut Lovati’s microphone and run advertising. After the break, the lawyer Lovati apologized to criminologist Bruzzone, inviting her not to provoke him.
The Prosecution’s Investigation
However, behind the televised clash remains a much more complex issue, concerning the investigation opened by the Brescia prosecutor’s office regarding this transaction. “The focus is on those money that would have been handed over by the Sempio family to the lawyers before Andrea was formally investigated. According to information emerging, the magistrates are trying to understand who actually received the sums in cash and for what activities” (source: Libero).
