The words "#WarCrime" sure seem to be popping up an awful lot these past few months.

Double Tap on Venezuelan shipwreck survivors.

Telling Iran we plan to bomb civilian targets and destroy water facilities.

And now a double tap on a bridge after First Responders arrive.

There needs to be nothing short of a #Nuremburg style trial once we get these #Nazis out of office.

@wdlindsy I hope everyone at airports is taking this opportunity to photograph the faces of all the ICE agents. We'll need them later for investigations and prosecutions.

'Dissecting the ‘devil’ reveals someone no different from a diligent office worker and doting father [Book]

In 1945, the year World War II (WWII) ended, the prison in Nuremberg, Germany, where Nazi war criminals were held, was like a specimen room of concentrated evil for the U.S. medical community. The Nazis’ atrocities that forced humanity to question the very conditions of being human—the Holocaust, the euthanasia of the elderly and people with disabilities, and human experimentation in Nazi concentration camps—coalesced into one urgent medical question. Did the Nazi leadership who planned and carried out such monumental crimes share any consistent psychological defect? Some in the U.S. medical community even proposed dissecting their brains, a sign of how obsessive scholars had become about locating the seed of evil. Were the Nazi leaders truly people born evil?

'The Nazi and the Psychiatrist,' written by American journalist Jack El-Hai, follows the records of Douglas Kelley, a U.S. Army psychiatrist who studied the mental health of 22 members of the Nazi leadership imprisoned in Nuremberg. The book consistently rejects the notion that they were inherently different. It argues that the Nazi leadership were in no way special and that their patterns of behavior can be found anywhere in the world.

(. . .)

After months of observing their words and actions and administering the Rorschach Inkblot Test to examine their personalities and emotional structures, Kelley reached a conclusion that was the opposite of what he had expected. The men did share certain traits: unbridled ambition, a shallow sense of ethics, a lack of empathy, and a patriotism that justified their crimes. Yet he found no personality defects or psychopathological evidence that would place them outside the normal range or prove that they were madmen or incarnations of evil. On the contrary, like ordinary people, they could distinguish between right and wrong and understood that their actions carried responsibility.

(. . .)

Hermann Wilhelm Göring, in particular, the number two figure in Nazi Germany, was an enigma to Kelley. Highly intelligent, he exuded a relaxed confidence, wielded charismatic leadership, and dominated the other prisoners. He doted on his wife and daughter, and his concern for animal rights was so advanced that it would not seem out of place even today."

How Trump’s Greenland threats amount to an implicit rejection of the legal principles of Nuremberg

The claim that national security can justify territorial acquisition marks a sharp break from the principles the US championed after World War II.

The Conversation

"I wasn't going to write about the murder of Alex Pretti until my weekly column on Friday. Then I read the letter from his parents yesterday urging everyone to denounce the lies and slanders being told about him by Trump and his demonic subalterns and felt compelled to write this, mostly in a white-hot rage that has yet to cool..." - Jeffrey St. Claire, editor of Counterpunch.

Where the Sidewalk Ends, the Lies Begin: On the Execution of Alex Pretti

Here’s what I saw after watching multiple videos of the execution of Alexi Pretti: VA nurse Alex Pretti, whom Gregory Bovino said wanted to do “maximum damage,” was trying to protect a woman who was being pepper-sprayed, an act of humanity which enraged the CPB agents who then went after him en masse, pepper-spraying him in the face. He was holding a cellphone in his hand at the time eight agents descended on him and slammed him to the pavement. With six immigration agents on top of him, Alex Pritti could easily have been "Chauvined" to death…if they hadn't decided to shoot him. He had a holstered gun, which  he had a permit (and god-given right, according to Trump and the NRA) to “open carry.” And that gun was taken from him by an agent who walked away, then they shot him multiple times from only inches away, as many as 10 shots in less than five seconds.

Nuremburg (2025)

A WWII psychiatrist evaluates Nazi leaders before the Nuremberg trials, growing increasingly obsessed with understanding evil as he forms a disturbing bond with Hermann Göring.

#Movies

Just watched #Wicked2 & #Sisu2 at my local #AMC these past 2 days.

Taking a day off to just loaf around the house. Woke up at 7 & still haven't gotten out of bed yet at 11. 🤗

Only 2 more movies out of the current crop that I want to see -- #NowYouSeeMe3 & #Nuremburg.

Planning on making a day of it to watch both of them tomorrow with a break for lunch.

This is only possible because I'm retired. 😉
