Seventeen people entered ICE custody alive this year and left in a bag — one death every six days. The agency's answer? Buy more warehouses. One was appraised at $76.8M and bought for $102.4M. That's not a failure. That's the design.

Razor wire against a flat gray sky. Inside, seventeen people who walked in breathing this year and left in a bag — a death every six days now. A tooth infection gone septic. A chronic condition ignored until an organ quit. These are the preventable ones — which is the point.
And the response to a body count that only climbs? Buy more warehouses. One in Maryland: appraised at $76.8 million, bought for $102.4 million. Somebody got rich off the architecture of slow death, hunting 20+ buildings to cage up to 96,600 people at once.
A nation reveals what it worships by what it builds. We are building tombs with loading docks.

Detained Women Join Hunger and Labor Strike at Delaney Hall ICE Jail in NJ

In New Jersey, immigration rights advocates say dozens of women detained at the Newark ICE jail known as Delaney Hall have joined an ongoing hunger and labor strike that is in its third week. Among their demands is for the facility to fire a female guard accused of sexually assaulting at least 10 immigrant women. The initial hunger and labor strike began on May 22, led by an estimated 300 detainees. In retaliation, activists say most of the hunger strikers have been transferred out of Delaney and sent to other ICE jails in recent days. Delaney Hall is run by the for-profit company GEO Group. In related news, the Jersey City Council has unanimously approved a resolution to divest from Citizens Bank as calls to boycott the bank grow over its financing of GEO Group and CoreCivic, two of the nation’s largest private operators of ICE jails.
