“We just wanted to have a bit of fun,” said a chuckling Sir Keir Starmer, still wearing his novelty red tie".
“We thought, what’s the most absurd, implausible thing we could announce without people immediately spotting the joke? So we said, ‘Let’s tax the rich!’ and honestly, we cracked up. It’s got that perfect mix of satire and fantasy.”
The prank reportedly fooled several Your Party members, who experienced momentary feelings of hope, before realising the announcement didn’t include 47 sub-clauses on fiscal moderation and caveats about ‘not upsetting the CBI’.
