New to this server but not new to Mastodon or the Fediverse at large.

I'm a cis-male, gay-asexual public library worker from the middle of England.

I'm into gaming, linguistics, learning Welsh (approximately B1/B2 level), low-level tinkering with techy things (recently MeshCore), plants and catching up on the news. I sometimes lose an hour or two to falling down a Wikipedia rabbit-hole.

I use Linux – not Arch, btw – and GrapheneOS with free & open-source software (FOSS).

I am chief lap-giver to two small furry beings-in-charge. 🐱 🐈

I have another account (for now) over at @james which may or may not vanish at some stage. I moved here because this instance doesn't seem to run on Cloudflare infrastructure.

No, I didn't join from another social media. I just finally decided to join mastodon because I got tired of being as quiet as I've been for the past year or two.

Since I stopped hosting my regular radio show Quarantimes, I've written and published a novel and gotten myself some gender-affirming (whatever that means, phew!!) surgery.

On top of that, I got myself a complete new set of skills, mainly in gardening, construction and woodworking in general. I became a bit more serious about the whole prepping thing - while not losing my principles and still keeping up the struggle for a world of many worlds, a good life for all. I won't eat boomer-doomer bullshit.

I intend to be talking about everyday politics, relationships, organizing... And I am happy to share and talk with fellow-minded people.

I didn't know how used I was to solid ground before both of my feet left the land. This is a metaphorical way to describe my literary migration. I'm in a busy square with cases of my writing, not sure whether to read a poem, ask for directions or just wait.

From a newcomer to a newcomer, here's what I've discovered and found useful:

1) If you can't find the answer, ask people. Post the question and add a hashtag. Also, follow the @FediTips account.
2) Notifications get sent to your email. You can disable that in settings.
3) Your feed is chronological. It shows posts from people (and hashtags!) that you follow.
