Intercellular communication is crucial for formation of the #TrigeminalGanglion. @PstroblM &co reveal that miR-203 is secreted by #NeuralCrest cells in #ExtracellularVesicles and taken up by #placode cells, regulating their condensation #PLOSBiology https://plos.io/3Lxz5sy
miR-203 secreted in extracellular vesicles mediates the communication between neural crest and placode cells required for trigeminal ganglia formation

Intercellular communication between neural crest cells and placode cells is critical for the formation of trigeminal ganglion during development. This study reveals that miR-203 from neural crest cells is selectively secreted in extracellular vesicles and mediates this communication, as it is taken up by placode cells and regulates their condensation.

#Cilia are essential for early embryonic L-R patterning, but what about later? Tissue/time-specific cilia inhibition in mouse embryos reveals a cell-autonomous role for cilia in #NeuralCrest-mediated #craniofacial & body wall closure defects #PLOSBiology https://plos.io/3NqvcHn
Autonomous and non-cell autonomous role of cilia in structural birth defects in mice

Cilia are essential for establishing early embryonic left-right patterning, but is there a developmental role for cilia following this initial signal? This study uses tissue- and time-specific cilia inhibition in mouse embryos to reveal a cell-autonomous role for cilia in cranial/trunk neural crest-mediated craniofacial and body wall closure defects.

BRD4 orchestrates genome folding to promote neural crest differentiation - Nature Genetics

Depletion of BRD4 reduces the chromatin occupancy of NIPBL, resulting in aberrant genome folding. Loss of BRD4 impedes neural crest differentiation, which can be rescued by depletion of WAPL.

Alas, a very windy and wet day in Halifax, Nova Scotia today. Perfect for doing whole mount embryo immunostaining experiments, organoid differentiation assays, and correcting term papers. Also reviewing, meeting guest lecturers, meetings…all the things we do at the university! #neurobiology #developmentalbiology #DevBio #cytoskeleton #neuralcrest
Latest work from our lab examining the interface between tumour initiation and embryonic cell fate decisions: a great collaboration with Florian Halbritter, spearheaded by Ingrid Saldana-Guerrero and Luis Montano-Gutierrez (all Mastodon-less, I think) #devbiol #Devbiol #stemcell #cancer #neuroblastoma #neuralcrest
