I buy Beko home appliances because it is in my interest that the Turkish economy is stable. Also I like the generic design. No Beko home appliances have ever failed me. #kettle #microwaveoven
Hawaiian Word of the Day: January 27th

ʻOmawawe is how we say microwave oven in Hawaiian. You know that is a new word in our language, but a useful one.

HAWAII

1/2 I bought my first #MicrowaveOven in 1990 (Panasonic, I believe). It worked just fine for 28 years, when I donated it to thrift. Never had a problem with it.

My currrent apartment came with a microwave (#GeneralElectric) that is only six years old. Long story short, it suddenly stopped working. Maintenance came by and said they’d have to order a part. Turns out the part is made of plastic, which eventually wore down. Maintenance told me most ovens have metal versions. #PlannedObsolescence

1970 Retro Tech Display: Vintage Electronics and Appliances

"This image showcases a collection of retro technology from the 1970s, including an old-fashioned television set, a stereo system with turntables, cassette tapes, and speakers, as well as a radio receiver.
There are also several vintage appliances such as a microwave oven, a toaster, and what appears to be an ice cream maker or churn.
The items are displayed side by side, providing a glimpse into the past and how technology has evolved over time."

Why is the #UserInterface #UserExperience of virtually every #MicrowaveOven on the face of the planet so abysmally awful? For a #kitchen #cooking device that has been this ubiquitous for this long in this many homes around the world, you would think that *someone* would have bothered to study how people actually use the things and improved their #design. There is an entire field for the study, #IndustrialDesign.

This is the model rated "best" by Wirecutter. It's just as awful as all the rest.

Does anyone have any smart way of stopping beans exploding when reheating food in the microwave?

Going to have to put the microwave food cover in the dishwasher again... 🙃

Our Russell Hobbs Easi microwave

All it can do is microwave – you press (or hold) the microwave button, the simple 7 segment LED display jumps up in 30 second jumps, bigger, the bigger time you’re on

It can defrost apparently but we’ve never done that

It can stop

It can go

That’s it! No stupid useless features (apart from defrost), no clock no timer nothing to do with weights, no modes you have to be in, no mazes of unapparent user interface, just press microwave, get 30 seconds, if that’s not enough press it more, then press start, and if you want to take the thing out, press stop (or just open it and it’ll keep the remainder)

That’s literally all it does, that’s all it can do and being a flatbed it’s probably more reliable as it has no motor or turntable

(I didn’t take a photo of the entire microwave oven, it’s like taking a photo of a mirror, the entire front is effectively a mirror)
