Support for Labor Unions Near Historic High as Trump Trashes Working Class

"Working people want #unions and the numbers prove it," says one labor leader. "While billionaires and their yes-men in Congress try to slash wages, gut health care, and silence working people, we are fighting back—organizing, mobilizing, and demanding a voice."

#Gallup's annual survey, released Thursday, shows more than two-thirds of people in the US (68%) approve of #labor unions and the economic security and prosperity they provide working families. The popular support matches record-high numbers of recent years after a long decline from the 1960s through the early 2000s.

ASU VIc Tas and the NTEU Vic have not endorsed the walk out/ strike as it is unprotected industrial action, but they have endorsed the rally at 1 PM at the State Library and encouraged their members who are planning to attend or participate to seek the support of their employer, take leave or use their lunch break to attend. The ASU Vic Tas has also expressed solidarity with those members who do choose to walk out.

EPA Is ‘100 Percent’ Union-Busting, Workers Say

After ending their collective-bargaining agreements, the #EPA ordered employees to seek prior approval for protected #union activities on non-duty time.

August 25, 2025

According to an internal advisory obtained by the Prospect, the agency has resorted to citing U.S. Criminal Code as justification for prior authorization, specifically referencing “the representational conflicts of interest statute.” The statute is designed to prevent conflicts of interest emerging from outside employment, whether paid or unpaid, but the EPA appears to be using it to restrict federal #workers from participating in union-protected activities. In the agency’s plane of reality, building support for improved working conditions without permission could be a criminal offense. Describing the agency’s conduct, Chen said “it’s 100 percent union-busting.”

New Jersey Temps Fight Agency Efforts to Block Their Rights

It’s 5:30 in the morning and the warehouse is already buzzing. Workers are unloading trucks, breaking down pallets, folding boxes, and packing orders to be shipped to local stores. Most of the workers at this New Jersey warehouse are immigrants from Latin America and the Caribbean, and most are temps, hired by one of the 200 temp agency branches that advertise warehouse and light manufacturing jobs in the state. These agencies take a cut of workers’ wages while companies save on recruitment, benefits, and payroll costs.

“Another World is Possible”: Liberatory Unionism in the US Art Museum Labor Movement

Art museum workers in the U.S. are in the midst of the most exciting period of labor organizing in decades. Since the launch of the New Museum Union in January 2019, there has been a 223% increase in new organizing at private, not-for-profit art museums alone. Though precarious working conditions long predate the COVID-19 pandemic, there was a boom in organizing in its wake after institutional responses exposed and exacerbated worker exploitation, unsafe working conditions, and layoffs and furloughs, predominantly affecting front-of-house workers.
