Retain Workshops. WS#1 Rights and open licensing in scholarly publishing

This Open Educational Resource on "Rights and open licensing in scholarly publishing" is based on the content of the workshop facilitated by the authors during the Summer School of the Pubmet 2024 conference, as part of the Retain project within the Knowledge Rights 21 programme*. This event is organised by SPARC Europe under the Retain project: part of the Knowledge Rights 21 programme. The session “Ten approaches to rights retention in Europe” aims to empower institutions which are considering facilitating legal Open Access (OA) publishing by supporting their authors' rights retention. The webinar will present findings and recommendations from the second Retain SPARC Europe report to be published in Q1 2025. We will shed light on diverse approaches and discuss their implications. Sharing insights from 10 countries across Europe, based on our interviews with policymakers, advocacy specialists, and activists. This session will help you grasp the evolving dynamics of European RR policies and learn first-hand from a panel of European experts sharing their opinions, experiences, and challenges. Speakers include Raúl Aguilera (REBIUN, Spain), Christina Angelopoulos (University of Cambridge, UK), Susanna Nykyri (Tampere University, Finland), Eoin O’Dell (Trinity College Dublin, Ireland), Jon Treadway (Great North Wood Consulting/SPARC Europe) and Victoria Tsoukala (European Commission). Prêter des ebooks comme des livres imprimés, impossible ?

En Europe comme aux États-Unis, les éditeurs vendent aux bibliothèques des licences permettant le prêt de livres numériques. Le coût de celles-ci est jugé prohibitif, et les conditions d'utilisation trop restrictives, par les professionnels et certaines organisations. Deux d'entre elles réclament l'application d'un même cadre de prêt pour les formats imprimés et numériques.
