feel this way

One last photo at Kasuga-taisha 春日大社 before I started walking back to the train station, via the backstreets, across the painted manhole covers of deer and trees and past a few mysterious BNE WATER ORG stickers that were briefly a source of entertainment for some.

the slow burn

A few people were in the main shrine buildings, where bronze and gold lanterns consume the corridors, hanging from every available point.

vanishing points

Although Kasuga-taisha 春日大社 may not be high on the list of destinations for most tourists, I felt it was one of the best shrines to visit. Its layout is unique and there is plenty to absorb and appreciate if you like architecture and design.

3) Over 200 wisteria trees (20 varieties) grow in Kasuga-taisha's 'Manyō Botanical Garden' (萬葉植物園 'Manyō Shokubutsuen'), but the most treasured grows beside the shrine's Nan-mon gate.
The 'Sunazuri-no-fuji' (砂ずりの藤 'Sand-brushing Wisteria') is estimated to be 800 years old!

I heard that purchasing a lantern for the Shinto shrine is costly, but you should consider buying one in your lifetime to help support it.
