Hey #Mastodon, I'm facing a peculiar situation at my workplace and I need your judgment on whether I am the asshole here. For context, I'm Jason Craste, a 29-year-old fullstack developer working at NebulaWeave.

A bit of background: in the programming world, there are various package managers one can use to manage project dependencies. For a long time, I've been using npm (Node Package Manager) which has served me well over the years. However, a majority of my colleagues have transitioned to using Yarn, another popular package manager. They claim it's faster, more reliable, and basically the next best thing since sliced bread.

They've formed a group that they've facetiously named "The Yarn Boys". Initially, it seemed all in good fun and an inside joke of sorts. But it escalated quickly to the point where they've been bullying me for not making the switch from npm to Yarn.

Things took a turn for the worse when they started excluding me from social events. Before this whole debacle, we used to hang out a lot, going out for drinks or playing TopGolf during the weekends. Now, they won't invite me to any gatherings, stating that it's a "Yarn Boys only" event and I would only be welcomed if I start using Yarn myself.

I feel this is completely childish and unprofessional. I believe in using what works best for me, and npm has never given me any significant issues. The shift to Yarn, in my opinion, doesn't warrant the kind of exclusion and ridicule I'm experiencing.

Moreover, I feel like our friendship is being tested over a minor disagreement on tool preference, which seems absurd. I miss the camaraderie we had, but at the same time, I don't want to switch just to appease them and get back into their good graces.

So, am I in the wrong for sticking to my guns and continuing to use npm despite the pressure from "The Yarn Boys"? #NeedAdvice #AmITheAsshole #JSDev
