Honestly... I'm disappointed in my current therapy sessions.
I often leave feeling heavier than I had been when I walked in, it seems like they hardly ever have anything comforting or anything therapy-wise to say to my feelings/problems/concerns, I keep asking them if we are going to do anything concrete from CBT instead of just kind of having a super unstructured typical talking about the current state of things, but it hardly seems to go anywhere.
On top of that, they seem to be pushing spiritual things and bringing up alternative meds, and seem to want to fix my problems for me instead of actually following the therapy program....
They claim to be specialized in Integrative Psychotherapy, but do CBT as well.
My hope/goal is to have therapy where I'll get long-term tools to help myself handle and react better to things. Very specific things that would help me with anxiety, self-esteem, etc.
Just saying how I feel and them more or less listening is something I could do even with a friend (or heck, an LLM).
I wish to learn tools to better protect and set boundaries, how to de-escalate and work with someone who is not respecting my boundaries, etc. My understanding is that CBT is kind of like that.
Does anyone have any opinions about what I've described? Is this approach to therapy something that is to be expected from Integrative Psychotherapy?
