Cellebrite kupuje Corellium za 200 mln USD – Apple w opałach?

Izraelska firma Cellebrite, znana z narzędzi do łamania zabezpieczeń iPhone’ów, przejęła Corellium – twórców wirtualnych iPhone’ów wykorzystywanych do badań nad bezpieczeństwem, podaje 9to5mac.To przejęcie za 200 milionów dolarów może znacząco wpłynąć na przyszłość bezpieczeństwa iOS.

Apple pozwało Corellium w 2019 roku, zarzucając naruszenie praw autorskich przez wirtualizację systemu iOS. Sąd jednak uznał działania firmy za dozwolony użytek („fair use”). Po przegranej apelacji Apple zawarło ugodę, a dziś Corellium trafia w ręce jednego z największych graczy w branży śledczej.

Nowe narzędzie „Mirror” pozwoli służbom stworzyć wirtualną kopię przejętego iPhone’a wraz z danymi. Ma to ułatwić przedstawianie dowodów w sądzie – zamiast zrzutów ekranu, pokazując interaktywną wersję telefonu podejrzanego.

Chris Wade, założyciel Corellium (ułaskawiony wcześniej przez Donalda Trumpa), zostaje CTO Cellebrite. Firma zapowiada także użycie AI do wykrywania złośliwego oprogramowania w wirtualnym środowisku.

Choć Apple od tego czasu udostępniło własne API do wirtualizacji, dzisiejsze połączenie Cellebrite i Corellium może ponownie zagrozić prywatności użytkowników iOS.
