Paid my first visit to Colonial Homestead in Millersburg, Ohio today. It's an antique hand tool super store, mostly for woodworking and blacksmithing tools. It was difficult, but I managed to get out of there for less than $100. It's dangerously close to where I live (about an hour away.) There are several videos about it on YouTube. Here's one by James Wright: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0WZA_gIBrJE

Where To Find Hand Tools Colonial Homestead Millersburg OH

YouTube
One of my many #HandTools for the grassroots food security/save the pollinators portion of the societal #FuckCapitalism revolution.
I use these often. One of my fave/most used hand tools - a really good plants snipper 💚😃

Incidentally, I normally post ‘quiet public’, meaning I use no hashtags because they don’t work in that mode. Posts look better, too. Stupid word, hashtag.

So if you want to follow along in my woodworking, restoration, or tool-making threads, for a good laugh, as I explore doing these things, the best way to do that is follow me, or use my feed somehow. It’s mostly about that here anyway, and sometimes house projects and #gardening.

Thread 2 of the bench ‘restore’: long stretchers.

See thread 1 for background and focus on trestles…

Thread 3, not started yet, will focus on top.

Reposting photos to get off on correct foot in this thread.

A recap: the workbench was built with long stretchers having tusk tenons. Top arrises on stretchers are beat up but I’ll simply round those over. However, the tenons on one end of each stretcher need repaired.

Breaker went at the unit planing down these bits of timber for my dad to use in his camper van and it's a Saturday so no one at the building for maintenance until Monday, I've been putting off doing this for ages so decent excuse to get the hand tools out and work on my skills #woodworking #handtools #tools #wood #DIY #maker

J'affute mes rabots, ciseaux à bois, couteaux,... tous !

Felling 9 holly trunks (~25 ft) and selectively salvaging the best sections for lumber. Holly is dense, fine-grained, and beautifully pale when fresh—too good to waste. Branches will be chipped; straight logs are to be milled on a Timberking 1220 band saw for small woodworking projects.

Really trying hard to come to 1/16" with hand tools because I can't find law bowling leagues in Northern Ontario but...might have to find something else if this keeps up :(
