@jameshowell @guix @daviwil I did some tests few months ago. I wanted to verify how usable will be a beautiful #thinkpad X200s which I bought long time ago. Instead of having some stable system as a base I used #guixos . Before I knew nothing about Scheme (still not much more) but it wasn’t any obstacle. The whole idea is elegant and clear. During my journey I used official docs and #LLM companion (#kiro cli). This combo let me move on super fast. I am amazed by results. I like minimalistic setups so my choose were: #i3wm , #neovim , qutebrowser, pass, #NextCloud client and #aerc . I also gave a try to #emacs but I still don’t feel it. The whole setup works extremely well. Thanks to good LLM advice on structuring config files to achieve composability I was enabled to prepare different profiles for my different machines while maintaining single configurations per functionality. Now I have longer pause but in nearest time I plan to experiment with #ubuntu + guix. I hope I reach out testing phase and stary using the setup for daily basis.

I kinda wanna try out the #guix #guixos but I feel like since I use both #plasmaDesktop and #steam (plus a lot of non-free stuff) I feel like maybe I'm just setting myself up for trouble?

but the idea of one language for everything, including services, and all of it being treated like a first class citizen is really appealing. Plus I'm pretty sick of the #nix community (fuck you, jon ringer, you warmongering garbage fucker).

Been working on my own setup (OS restoration) script thingy that can build a semi-ready to go OS from base Debian install for a week on and off with my old laptop as the patient test subject.

Now I've found NixOS and GNU Guix OS which seem to do a lot of the work for you by making things declarative and reproducible. Interesting!

Alright, spending this morning looking at what it might take to get #GuixOS booting on my MNT Reform A311D. I have my own reservations about GNU, but AFAICT it seems like the lesser evil at the moment. Forking nix or making a micro distro isn't in the cards for me. Before I had a kid, I'd have likely gone that route, but my time's limited.

Anyone have any arguments regarding why I shouldn't jump ship from NixOS to (non)GuixOS? Don't want to pour a bunch of time into making another mistake.
