If you zoom in, you’ll see a tiny squiggle of green — it’s the #GreenFlash at sunset. Surprised I got it given the fog layer at the horizon from my perspective here near Ocean Beach.

360 degrees, divide by 24 then 60, gives 0.25, and sun half a degree wide.

2 minutes, then.

So I was driving north on 1 right at sunset, perfect timing, north on a stretch that had the whole Pacific laid out to the left.

Clear sky so the red ball of the #sun slid down, bumped the flat line of the ocean, then slowly sunk beneath the waves.

No traffic.

Glanced left. Steered. Glanced left. Steered.

At the last moment, I am pretty sure I saw a #greenflash at the sun's upper limb.

Now this was just a perfect capture. Spotted off the California coast, in between the red sky and the blue sea, the rarest of colors the sun blesses us with: the "Green Flash".
