Ein hoffnungslos altmodischer Film: Charlie Chaplin verabschiedet sich hier nicht mit einer großen letzten Verbeugung, sondern nur mit einem leisen Augenzwinkern. Das war kein Slapstick-Feuerwerk, kein letzter Spaß mit dem Tramp, auch keine moralische Abrechnung mit US-Amerika und Hollywood.
