In a recent study by Consumer Reports have found that EVs are 79% less reliable than their gasoline counterparts. Although EVs contain less parts than their gasoline counterparts, their brand new electric powertrain has proven less reliable.

However, out of all the powertrain types, PHEVs were deemed the least reliable while traditional hybrids were more reliable than their gasoline counterparts.
