Dealing with fruit flies.

I don't know if this is a generally known thing or not, but since I was just refreshing my fruit fly trap I figured I'd share it.

It's super simple. Jar, paper, and tape. Apple cider vinegar and a squirt or two of dish or hand soap. The flies fly in, they can't figure out how to get out, they get stuck in the liquid.

If you drink soda or anything in a plastic bottle like that, you can also make one by cutting the top off the bottle, flipping it over, and using it as the funnel.

I do find, if you have a lot of flies, that vacuuming up the ones you can see speeds the process. In a few days the jar gets the rest and prevents further infestations.

Ok.
I just learned they hate soil nutrients. You’re only supposed to water with distilled water as well. #Venus #Flytraps stop producing traps if you provide soil and water nutrients. They produce traps when they are depleted of other means of nutrients if you want more traps you need to keep them in nonnutrient substrates and water with distilled water.
BUT: STILL FUNNY! 😂

Day 4: Asian #hornets (Vespa velutina) keep causing a lot of grief to beekeepers in my area, and they're becoming here the most loathed insect in their own right.

The fact they are large apex predators, however, didn't deter my Venus #flytraps from trying some Asian food.
