Two big hopefuls, one homegrown and one not: Nepenthes ventricosa “red” HC A x mollis (from @jeremiahsplants pollen), and rajah x platychila BE-4509.
Due to a number of issues concerning sphagnum quality and this stupid blue-green mold/algae I can’t seem to kill, I only have 3 of the former left from the batch, but the biggest one is showing some spectacular shape and striping even as a baby.
The second hybrid, great color even on these young lowers, but I expect the uppers are where it’ll shine (unless rajah just makes it gigantic and impressive overall.

Largest trap so far on Nepenthes rajah x eymae from @nepenthesgod
rajah influence is obvious in the back-slanted mouth and big arching lid, but eymae is dominating everything else so far. But it’s a long ways from mature so we’ll see how the traits line up soon enough.

New video out!
This week's midweek plant highlight is Pinguicula poldinii, a rare Italina endemic butterwort!

A few notable traps today: Sarracenia wherryi x leucophylla “original yellow;” traps on all 4 clones I’ve kept start out heavy green and pink blushed but then age with increasing amounts of white.
The giant x areolata is now colored up and open, and still towers over everything else.
And a newly opened flava Improve Black Veins trap; I got two different clones earlier this year and both struggled from the weird spring weather, but this one a little more so.

A new bloom has finally graced the greenhouse: Utricularia involvens! A southeast Asian species, it produces relatively large strap shaped leaves that mat the soil surface, and long, twining stalks that bear the half inch bright lemon yellow flowers. The comically large keel-like palate is a key trait as is the tendril-like grasping habit of the inflorescences.

Lower and upper pitchers on the just-repotted Nepenthes ramispina x ventricosa. Everyone is familiar with the common clone “Rebecca Soper” (no, it is not a gracillima hybrid) but there are several IMO better clones out there and this vigorous beast is one (main vine is 6 feet long).

Check out my girl drosera capensis, eating that huge fly, a legend.

This week's plant highlight bonus is a species that is highly sought after by many, for the massive unique peristome the uppers possess! I seem to have gotten quite lucky with mine as each successive trap just keeps getting a broader and broader lip, but watch the video to see why it's not only delightful to grow, but why I'm surprised it isn't already more common.

Repotted and trimmed tonight, Nepenthes x splendiana x (eymae x ephippiata).
This is one case where I definitely like the lowers more than the uppers; seems like the mother plant took over the upper shape quite heavily. With any luck those trimmed bits root and I’ll have a couple in a few months to offer.
