Nepenthes bellii x robcantleyi, bouncing back rapidly after the repot it needed. It’s yet to flower, but once settled it makes a lot of big, chunky traps. Didn’t inherit the dark color of rob sadly, but the contrast of lime green peristome (which blushes bronze sometimes) and purple inside is attractive.

Pinguicula emarginata x sp. Tonala “ANPA A” HC A
Still propagating this one but a couple of its siblings are available in the Shop.

When it comes to simple hybrids, it’s hard to beat the spectacular and easy nature of Nepenthes ventricosa x spectabilis. Chunky, flared peristomes, and bright reds that quickly age to this deep purple and black.

New video out!
This week's midweek plant highlight is one of the few tuberous sundews that I would fully call beginner-friendly: Drosera menziesii! A climber with spectacularly large flowers, and way more tolerant of grower slipups than most of this group is!
Find the video here: https://youtu.be/V5cNh06A56k

Which do you prefer, lighter and multicolor stripes, or dark and chocolate-red?
Both are sibling Nepenthes (veitchii x burbidgeae) x stenophylla I got as freebies a while back, that just got a much-needed pot upgrade.

The fattest Nepenthes rafflesiana that ever did live…or possibly just introgressed with ampullaria. Its siblings are all more or less normal raff though, with similar coloring…

A germinated Utricularia gibba seed is sprouting
This might finally give me some endophyte free in vitro cultures to work with.

Not everything in the bog garden is carnivorous — but this is just as fascinating! 🌿 The sphagnum moss (Sphagnum sp.) is sporulating, sending up hundreds of tiny sporophytes topped with ripe spore capsules. These delicate stalks are the moss's way of reproducing — once the capsules open, spores are released into the air to start new colonies. Sphagnum is the unsung hero of the bog garden: it keeps the substrate acidic and moist, creating the perfect conditions for carnivorous plants to thrive. But in this moment, it's stealing the show entirely.

Comparison of pitchers on Nepenthes ventricosa x sibuyanensis clone B, and A. While the differences have become more slight for some reason, clone B tends to produce more hourglass pitchers and darker peristomes (once fully aged) contrasting a lighter body while A has more fat cylindrical traps and red color. Both have vined immensely before but still can’t quite seem to convince them to bloom…
Clone A is currently still available in the Shop, though as soon as they’re repotted both are likely to have vines chopped and propagated as they have multiples

These little ones earned their place! 🌱 These Venus flytrap (Dionaea muscipula) seedlings spent their entire first winter outside, exposed to frost and cold just like the adult plants. And they made it! Already producing their first proper traps, complete with those characteristic interlocking teeth. Growing carnivorous plants from seed takes patience — it can be years before they reach full size — but watching them push through their first dormancy is incredibly rewarding.
