BREAKING: The US Supreme Court on First Monday—gets off to a nosediving start, upholding a lower court decision on emergency abortions that would be banned under Texas law.
The Supreme Court decided Monday that a court order finding Texas hospitals cannot federally be required to provide pregnancy terminations when they violate a state abortion ban will stay for now. The decision is another setback for opponents of Texas’ abortion ban and comes weeks before a presidential election where abortion has been an animating issue. The high court did not detailing its reasoning and there were no noted dissents. Texas had asked the justices to leave the order in place while the Biden administration had asked the justices to throw out the lower court order.
An interesting thesis in a new number of #FirstMonday: U.S. academic libraries 🇺🇸 are also influenced by the policies of new media content creators that maximize their profits through streaming on their own platforms.

In my opinion, commercial players have long been trying to throw #libraries out of the ecosystem: content producer - library - reader, and streaming platforms is another serious challenge for librarians ❗
