My mailserver stopped pulling in the mails from an older external email address today.
And well, yet another #debian annoyance. They apparently just removed the ".service" #systemd unit file from the #fetchmail package. And to nobodies surprise that caused it to stop working after an automatic update.
And then you look into the open issue and one of the first recommendations is to go into the #ArchLinux version of the package and manually copy the .service and .tmpfiles basically.

Yesterday was #DigitalIndependenceDay! #Email is vital and predates the web. Though fully federated, it’s now dominated by large providers. Luckily, alternatives like #Posteo or #ProtonMail exist. The hoster #Uberspace also offers email if you like it more hands-on. For 10+ years, I run #Postfix + #Dovecot in my homelab: Relay outbound via my domain provider’s #SMTP and use #Fetchmail to pull inbound mail to my #IMAP server.

This is my personal project which is becoming a set of MTA / MDA tools for bridging the #Fediverse into the email universe so I can use #mutt as my client. It's roughly along the lines of #fetchmail, #sendmail, #promail, etc. Currently it's a bit of an unholy mess as it transitions from being a stand-alone client to a piece of plumbing, and the new stuff is completely undocumented. I'll update the documentation and write a blog post covering the state of play later, but let me know if you want any more info before then.
At some point soon I'm also planning to migrate hosting away from GitHub, but I'll stick with it for the time being so I have somewhere to share the most recent version of the code.

It is running #Nextcloud, and so effectively does the cloud storage, calendar & contacts. I've been running this since before Nextcloud (I used to use OwnCloud).
This and SSH is all that is accessible outside of home. Both have MFA and China is currently blocked (I mean to expand this list).
However it also handles DHCP & DNS for the home LAN using #dnsmasq and I use it as an email archive (#dovecot). There is a functional #fetchmail install, but this is currently switched off.
It also has my #Subversion archive. That stays until I get around to having a proper look at #git.
With #USA going downhill I do have plans to get it do do more - but I'm playing with using #docker containers so if anything gets hacked, that will minimise the damage. I currently have too much running on the raw iron.
I'm using #borg for backups onto an external HDD that then occasionally is copied elsewhere (physical media off-site).
@daveburb @nobodyinperson I do the same thing. I use #dovecot to serve the mail folders. I use #fetchmail to pull all my external mail accounts to my #dovecot server they are all aggrigated into my one mailbox.
With this setup, if my mailserver goes down, people can still send me mail without errror. I'll just get it a bit later when the server comes back up. Setup a local SMTP forwarder to forward your outgoinv mail to a real SMTP.

Как получить правильный ответ от Chat GPT — так же как и в реальной жизни — задать правильный вопрос. Какой вопрос правильный? Да кто ж его знает, но найти его с чатом стало проще, чем просто копаться на stackoverflow. Про это и статья... Ну и помимо этого под катом работающий скрипт, который слушает почту по IMAP и пересылает письма с вложениями и русским языком на API endpoint.
