Peachberry jamming is done. A smaller batch than usual, but I'm just topping up preserve reserves with this one.

I be jammin'

This week's instalment of Canapalooza 2025 is my most favouritist jam I make: Blueberry-Peach (or Peachberry)

Yes, I had peaches last week...but I ate too many to make it worth the effort of setting up the kettle

It's asparagus season and I've got the spear-it in me!

This week, it’s about the first vegetable of the season

Had greats visit with Tim Barrie at Barrie's Asparagus, and Chef Ace from Cambridge’s The Blackshop about that towering veggie. Tips, tricks and a recipe for Bang Bang Shrimp in this week’s column

Day 10 of 30 Days of Local Food: Herrles Country Market

It’s a seasonal business, open from spring to autumn, but for 60 years, the Herrle Family has brought the best, in-season fruits and vegetables from their farm, excellent produce from nearby farmers and other foods and ingredients made locally. And, importantly, their products are priced fairly to customers and farmers. It’ll be a few months before they open for the new season, but, I’ll be looking forward to flats of summer strawberries and, later, just sweet enough corn.

Day 4 of 30 Days of Local Food: 3 Gen Organics

One of the things about living *here* is it only takes a few minutes to get out to the farms, and get locally grown fruits, veg, and meat. AND we can meet the growers and learn more about what they do. 3 Gen is a 5-generation farm in Wallenstein, specialising in organic pork. Their on-site market has freezers filled with cuts and products like sausages and the shelves have their honey (ask nicely, and they’ll also sell you eggs). Plus they stock ready-made foods from local makers!

I'm really lucky that I get to talk to amazing and lovely people as part of my column. I absolutely enjoyed every conversation I had with farmers for this week's piece on local farm shops.

They're more than places for some of the province's best, freshly-picked produce, locally raised meats, eggs, dairy (etc) that's grown right on our doorstep!

More than just corn and strawberries, farm markets offer wide variety of local items: Jasmine Mangalaseril | CBC News

Dozens of farm shops are open in Waterloo region and Wellington County and that means you can buy in-season, locally grown fruits, vegetables, meats, and more direct from the farmer. But those stores do more than keep us well fed, CBC K-W's food columnist Jasmine Mangalaseril writes.

When an upcoming column is on farm shops, I can't help but pick up locally-grown and -produced food. Today was Herrles (St. Agatha) and Oakridge Acres (Ayr)...and yes, those are Annamae's raspberry tarts.

Wilmot farmers made a moving statement to the @RegionWaterloo Council a few weeks ago regarding the expropriation of their land. Their opportunity to speak was given following persistent requests from multiple @UWaterloo students during the session. We applaud the farmer’s for…
