When Ford compares Ontario to a banana republic, I think he's referring to overall poverty, which is more likely a consequence of banana republicanism, rather than the definition.
A private jet for a political leader seems like something you're more likely find in a banana republic, TBH.

"And for those who claim that universal healthcare is economically unsustainable, and point to the struggles of the British National Health System (NHS), I remind them that any system that is not properly funded will collapse"
Me pointing wildly at Ontario and Alberta where leaders are doing just this, intentionally under-funding our healthcare.

👋 It was brought to my attention that my post has the appearance of slamming the present mayor, and that was not my intent. (as Torontonians are aware J. Tory signed the FIFA tickets agreement)
👉 My point is this, even at at a municipal level it's important to be active in politics or our tax dollars add to this sort of pandering to the wealthiest when our money should go worthy causes.
Hello, Toronto, did anyone consult residents before the city used taxpayers money to purchase 3,546 FIFA tickets ?
Most of the tickets were sold but the city won't be transparent about the finances.
No wonder people are fed up with politics and reading the news.

Hamilton’s Committee of Adjustment denied an application from Slate Asset Management to split up an industrial lot. The company has said it is considering building a data centre on part of it. Hundreds of people came to Hamilton city hall on Thursday to oppose the application.
