My 25 years of palaeoart chronology...

Here's a cheat sheet for Megalograptus, commissioned in 2022 for a project I cannot talk about yet. The scientific consultant was Fiann Smithwick.

there oughta be a channel called Megalodeon, and on odd numbered days it's all about Megaloptera, while on even days it's all about Megalograptus.

Four-color sketch of eurypterus, including bioluminescent bits because I'm a sucker for shit that glows.

Watch the stream I drew this in https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uyK-6Sik0Ls

[ID: A digital sketch of a eurypterus, an extinct sea creature, done from the top in three shades of purple and then cyan.  The eurypterus is spotted with cyan in a manner that makes it look bioluminescent. /ID]

Happy #fossilfriday from me and my pterygotus plush. Just got the new Pride flag Cecil stickers today because I was out of town during pride night at the museum. #eurypterid #paleozoicpals
#Ordovician and #Silurian friends in the #NaturkundeMuseumStuttgart . Lovely cephalopods and a very blue #eurypterid reconstruction. The #orthocones should be swimming vertically, but then again there wasn't enough space in the display for that.

An unfortunate biological scheduling conflict occurs on the coast of a #Silurian lagoon when #Pseudoniscus #horseshoecrabs and #Eurypterus sea scorpions come to the same beach to mate and spawn. Although they are relatives who share both this behaviour and eyes which lack acuity, but have perfect night vision, the sea scorpions have no qualms about using this accidental meeting to snack on their smaller cousins.

#NewSpecies of Giant #SeaScorpion Unearthed in New Mexico https://www.sci.news/paleontology/hibbertopterus-lamsdelli-11608.html

A new species of the #eurypterid Hibbertopterus from the #Carboniferous of #NewMexico, and a review of the #Hibbertopteridae https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/abs/10.1080/08912963.2022.2032690

The ancient creature was up to 1.1 m long and probably lived in a marine-influenced #estuary fed by a river delta. Its diet likely included small #crustaceans, #ostracodes, #conchostracans, #invertebrate #larvae and #gastropod eggs.

Not a happy girl till I’ve seen an #Eurypterid

However one day I must see this species. Only a claw has been found which is a similar size to the specimen at the #RoyalBelgianInstituteOfNaturalSciences

For those that like #Carboniferous #Malacostraca #Shrimps I have added a paper I was involved with. Neil Clark used my donated specimens in this and the #geology and survey stuff is mine. The download paper is on #geology at https://cawdigs.co.uk/publications , together with record form of Beeches Quarry. Neil and I also saw some poor #Eurypterid fossils, but we were unable find the bedding plains where they came from. It rained sheets & semi liquid #talus slopes 20 m up quarry face is not nice. 1/2
