In #Carboniferous, global #forests appeared, covering #tropical zones with tree-high #horsetails, #clubmosses, and #ferns. #Oxygen levels rose, and #CO2 was bound for transforming peat into lignite and #bituminous #coal. The climate later became colder i.a. due to the decreasing greenhouse gas leading to the Permo-Carboniferous Ice Age period.

#Illinois has a ton of #coal, being mostly inland sea or swamp during the #Carboniferous, but it's all high in sulfur, making it un-economical when you factor in the costs of e.g. acid rain. I wonder if there's a way for us to do something with this natural resource in a way that accounts for that but also the whole global warming aspect of direct coal use. Seems like no but IDK? 😰🥵 #Regional #economic gurus help plz
