Yeah. Because nuclear is so "cheap", the French government needs to subsidize the price of electricity so nuclear can stay "competitive".
We can learn something from this: It's not alwas private capitalists that drive totally illogical decisions. Because of ideology and institutional inertia, state-owned companies* can result also in bad outcomes.
* ok, there are also quite a few private companies or joint ventures involved, but it is impressive how the French govt continuously redistributes money into an industry that has clearly shown to not be the solution.

@ptg Hum, source ? Just do a quick google search for "using solar to give back to the grid", and you'll see that the concept already exists.
For example : https://science.howstuffworks.com/environmental/energy/sell-electricity-back-grid2.htm
Or this : https://diversegy.com/selling-energy-back-to-the-grid/
Granted, if everyone tried to sell back electricity to the grid tomorrow, we'd have a problem ;)
But it is possible.
Seems as if the #nordics have not yet achieved #greengrowth by #decoupling from #co2Emissions At least if you consider #bunkerFuels, #biomass imports for #electricityProduction and not use the largest #remainingCo2Budget .

Just working on some trends and forecasting for national production of renewables. Example attached. Looking to produce a R/shiny dashboard, so you could select countries and types of renewable/non-renewable sources. Useful? Comments and suggestions welcome.
