Two brothers face charges over AKA’s Durban murder
Key Points
AKA (Kiernan Forbes) was shot dead outside a Durban restaurant in 2023. Police say the rapper and chef Tebello “Tibz” Motsoane were killed there.
Image Credit:Image credit: Linda Ikeji’s Blog / Metro FM (RIP AKA).The Ndimande brothers arrived from Eswatini after a legal fight to block their extradition. They landed in Durban cuffed under heavy police guard before court processing.
They face murder charges in both killings and related firearm offences. Prosecutors also list attempted murder and unlawful gun possession; see Cardi B announces birth.
Extradition and arrival
Eswatini courts rejected last-minute bids to stop the brothers’ return to South Africa. Officials said the decision cleared the way for a swift handover.
The pair arrived at Durban’s international airport on Tuesday under police escort and cuffs. Cameras showed them flanked by officers as they walked into custody for processing.
The Ndimandes will be added to a docket with five other accused already held. The combined case will cover both killings and related charges against all suspects.
Court papers say prosecutors plan to present forensic and witness evidence in the coming weeks. The timeline for arraignments and evidence hearings is still unclear to the public.
The brothers will appear with five other accused in the same trial process. Defence lawyers have not yet filed full responses or entered pleas on record.
Next steps in the case
A trial date has not yet been set by the court. Police said they will reveal more details during scheduled pretrial hearings.
Forbes’s family released a brief statement asking for privacy and a fair trial process. Fans and peers in the music community described the arrests as a necessary step for justice.
Investigators previously said they built a case using mobile data and witness accounts. Authorities praised cross-border co-operation for bringing the suspects back to South Africa.
South African prosecutors must now prepare formal charge sheets and disclosure to defence teams. The court will review custody status at initial appearances and set further dates.

Cuban deported after 49 years in USA sent to maximum-security prison in Eswatini
