@davidh Er. A deposit scheme should be moving bottles from recycling to reuse.
In the 1980s a Newcastle Brown Ale White Flint bottle averaged 11 trips before it was recycled.
Now it will take a while to reestablish reusable bottles but that should be the aim. The reusable bottles were a bit heavier than the single trip ones supermarkets insisted upon.
(And there is no kerbside glass recycling in E.g. Highlands and Aberdeenshire).

Whilst fully supportive of efforts to increase recycling the introduction of the poorly thought out deposit return scheme in Scotland where there is already kerbside recycling seems to be introducing an unnecessary level of complication and cost. Surely better to improve the efficiency of current systems and assist local authorities to make them work. #scotland #recycling #DepositReturn #ScottishGreens #snp #DrinksIndustry #scottishnationalparty
