Dora Morelenbaum is a Brazilian artist in the popular music scene known as MPB, who plays a laid-back version of pop that is also deeply immersed in the county's rich musical traditions. Like many of her cohorts in contemporary MPB, she uses these time-honored genres as the building blocks of her music rather than replicating them. So we get a good deal of nu bossa and tropicalia blended into classic orchestral pop, among other things. Soul, funk, and especially samba influenced jazz continually weave through her work, the stylistic range of which is evident in her 2024 debut album, Pique, with its warm, bouncy, and endlessly alluring sound.
