🌐 #Foundation #Fieldbus (FF) is a digital, two-way communication protocol used in industrial automation to connect field instruments like transmitters and control valves directly to control systems such as #DCS ⚙️

🔄 Unlike traditional 4–20 mA #signals, FF allows multiple devices to communicate over a single cable 🔌 while sharing both

I run a weekly community co-op event where we fly #DCS, most recently often also some #NuclearOption. Most recently we’ve been doing a play through with a rotary bent of a custom campaign I’ve been making together with @NeneExists.

Here’s some screencaps from some eventful bits from last weeks flight ^^ Got another one coming up tomorrow.

📌 Yokogawa CENTUM VP – Test Function Not Starting?

While running the test function in #Yokogawa CENTUM VP DCS, the following issue may appear:

➡ HIS startup error
➡ Illegal exit code error in CENTUM VP
➡ Test function / simulation not starting

So, a bit after that game, we were discussing the server's upcoming shift to allow modern weapons. And I was like "that's good" because I'm more familiar with active radar missiles and BVR timelines than heatseekers (and we don't get semi-actives in the Viper anyway).

I then had the thought of "aw, man, what if we come up against Eagles, though, that's going to be a pain in the arse". The Eagle radar is much better than the Viper's. My buddy was like "ah, we don't have to worry about that, because nobody plays the Eagle, because the implementation isn't very good".

Anyway, we both just got killed by an Eagle 😆.

We'll have to wait for the Tacview to become available, but we're both very keen to see it. At the time my buddy fired on him, the missile should have had so much energy as to be nearly impossible to defeat, but somehow the Eagle did and launched on us.

Apparently there is an illicit move you can do that defeats missiles, which would not work IRL, which will get you banned for using it. We'll have to see from the telemetry!

At any rate, I don't mind a loss when I can find out what went wrong and can learn from it. Tacview's such a good tool for that, otherwise it's just "oh, I exploded and have no idea why".

I flew some PVP with my buddy last night. He's vastly more experienced than me, so he took flight lead. I asked if he was happy to give me on-the-job training, and he said sure.

We had a good time! I had been so wrapped up in trying to learn air-to-air tactics, and dissatisfied with my progress through a certain rather dry air combat textbook that I wasn't sure how it was going to go.

Well, the thing is, you don't have to be *good*, you just have to be better than the enemy. And that's a waaaaaay lower bar to clear than I feared. Like, I have more tactical sense than this poor Harrier driver who kept trying to take off to defend his airfield while it was in the process of being attacked by three F-16s. I don't have to be The Red Baron to realise that's a losing proposition and the smart play would be to pick another airbase!

Good fun. I think I need to work on my deconfliction radio calls a bit, or else wait for randos to make their attack before making mine, because we doubled up a bit and wasted ordinance. But still, no losses from our flight
