Starting in Scarborough, the Cinder Track begins near Sainsbury's car park and travels through several picturesque villages, including Scalby, Burniston, and Cloughton. In Scalby, the path crosses Scalby Beck and Station Road, providing easy access to local amenities and scenic spots. The route is well-signposted and features various access points, making it suitable for shorter walks or longer treks.

Recent efforts have been made to improve the track's surface and infrastructure, ensuring better safety and usability for all types of users. This includes enhancements to junction safety, public spaces, and landscape diversity along the route.

The Cinder Path in Scalby is part of a larger route known as the Cinder Track, which runs from Scarborough to Whitby along a former railway line. This 21.7-mile trail is popular for walking, cycling, and horse riding, offering scenic views of the North Yorkshire coastline and countryside.

The Cinder Track, including the section through Scalby, follows the path of a railway that operated from 1885 until its closure in 1965. The track is named after the cinders used in its construction, which form its distinctive surface. The path is relatively flat and accessible, though some sections can be rough and muddy, particularly in winter.

(Day 1 of 2)

@KJHagen love that place! First place we went to on our first family cycling trip when our boy was 5 and we rode the #cindertrack.

I remember cycling in with my boy and we ate roll mop by the sea 😊

"There and back again"

Went up the #CinderTrack and back from #Scarborough to #Ravenscar yesterday morning.

There is a diversion for some repair works between Scarborough and Burniston, but apart from that, all good.

It's more or less a gentle incline all the way to Ravenscar, but it makes the return trip most enjoyable! 😁
