The humble forget-me-not self sets and appears each year at this time around TeePee Cidery. Its scienitific name is Myosotis arvensis a species of flowering plants in the family Boraginaceae from the Northern Hemisphere. Introduced in the 1879z it lives to set in the rough parts like the rubble at the side of the driveway. Myosotis alpestris is the official flower of Alaska. #cidery #New Zealand #Aotearoa
At TeePee Cider we live on the Taratahi plains of the Wairarapa. This is an alluvial plain feed by braided rivers flowing from the Tararua ranges. These are geologically young steep and of broken greywacke rock that generates a lot of gravel and silts that flow down the rivers to the sea, or deposited onto the lands during flooding. #aquifer #orchard #cidery #wairarapa #braidplain
Despite the cold weather some bulbs are appearing early in NZ this winter. Several friends around the motu are reporting it. This snowdrop growing in the gap in a brick border is in flower in orchard garden. Perhaps it the retained warm from the sunlight on the bricks. I never tire of looking at the details in nature. Leaves are produced in the billion each year. Each species has a different pattern that is beautifully copied. This is a rose leaf at the orchard back lit by the sun. #nature #orchard #cidery #rose #leaves
Definitely autumnal weather now. Heavy dew highlighting the cobwebs spiders have been busy weaving overnight at Beau Vista Orchard and TeePee Cidery. Such craftsmen #autumnal #cidery #cobwebs #spider
Poundhouse is the word for the place where apples are crushed and pressed to make cider. First recorded in 1646 in Devon “The Pownd howse: The Apple pownd or Press.“ in M. Cash, Devon Inventories 16th & 17th Century.
And again in W Marshall, Rural Economy W England vol 1 page 224 “The ordinary place of manufacture [of cider], provincially the ‘pound house’,—is generally a mean shed or hovel”. #cider #cidery #apples #poundhouse
Be careful what you wish for. After windy dry sunny weather we now have drizzle……. I am sure the trees love it though. Me, I’m doing indoor work getting the apple pressing area ready for harvest instead. #apples #orchard #trees #cidery

Teepee Cider was pleased to be able to place a display at the Martinborough iSite. Thanks to some computer wizardry by David FitzJohn there is over a 100 photographs rotating on the LCD screen all about the year’s cycle in an orchard and cidery. Come into the iSite and take a look. Book visit to us of a winery, have a coffee at the excellent cafe, read a book at the library and let the kid in you play in the fantastic playground outside. #orchard #cidery #Martinborough #iSite
