IRAP[#CTAO] Dédié à l'astronomie gamma, le réseau de télescopes #Cherenkov est en cours de déploiement sur les îles Canaries et le désert d'Atacama au Chili. Sitôt achevé, il s'imposera comme l’ #observatoire le plus grand et le plus sensible pour l’ #astronomie #gamma à l’échelle mondiale.

« La création de l’ERIC CTAO en ce début d’année 2025 est une excellente nouvelle pour toute la communauté scientifique européenne d’astronomie gamma. Cette création était très attendue, en particulier par les établissements de recherche français qui sont parmi les principaux contributeurs de l’infrastructure » précise Guy Perrin, délégué français au « Board of Governmental Representatives » de CTAO.

koukypa 🐧Il nome ricorda la targa dell'auto di Paperino, ma in realtà OP 313 è un lontanissimo nucleo galattico attivo: il più distante mai osservato a energie sopra i 100 GeV. A firmare la scoperta è stato Lst-1, il primo telescopio di taglia “large” del Cherenkov Telescope Array.

Quasar sopra i 100 GeV per un telescopio “L” di Cta - MEDIA INAF
La prima scoperta scientifica di uno dei telescopi di taglia “large” dell’osservatorio Cta è un quasar osservato a oltre 100 GeV: distante circa 8 miliardi di anni luce da noi, è l’Agn più lontano mai rilevato ad altissime energie.
