Ну что, ещё одна камера починена! Зоркий-4, 1962г.
В этот раз я её перебрал и промыл совершенно полностью, включая механизм затвора, а после настроил его.
Надо сказать, старые советские камеры, когда-то экспортированные в страны Европы и там сломанные (да-да!) - это лучший вариант, в который можно вкладывать усилия.
По простой причине - тут не было практики самопалтного ремонта, если эти камеры ломали, то никто не лез их самостоятельно чинить. В таком виде они обычно и дошли до наших дней, с минимальным износом. Другое дело, что поломанные камеры обычно имеют внутри следы механического насилия. Если что-то заклинило - пытались провернуть силой и деформировали механику, срывали детали. Но все же, с таким аппаратом гораздо приятнее работать, чем с камерой, в которой до тебя несколько умельцев портили винты, теряли шайбы и прочее.
Любопытно, что советское общество культивировало такой самопальный ремонт, выпуская популярную техническую литературу. И, таким образом, взрастило много хороших мастеров - но и техники от неумелых рук пострадало порядком. Зато теперь на западе очень ценятся любительские переводы этой литературы - авторства Майзенберга, Яковлева и других. Потому что камеры эти любят и интерес к ним растёт. А чинить их без литературы непросто.

If you didn't knew, how classic curtain shutter works...
Если вы не знали, как работает классический шторно-щелевой затвор камеры. Экспозиция осуществляется через щель между первой и второй шторкой, скользящий по кадру. Щель на 1/50 секунды будет примерно величиной с кадровое окно. А на 1/1000 - пара миллиметров. Все что медленнее 1/50 осуществляется с помощью часового механизма замедлителя. Первая шторка открывается точно так же, а вот вторая задерживается этим механизмом.
Устройство затвора простое, но есть нюанс - его довольно муторно настраивать и это вообще не всегда возможно сделать точно.
Скорость первой и второй шторки определяются натяжением пружин В шторных барабанах. Если скорость шторок разная, то и ширина щели на протяжении экспозиции будет меняться. Это значит, что одна часть кадра будет отличаться, либо светлее либо темнее. И поймать этот баланс довольно сложно, причём что-либо регулировать до того, как вы полностью разобрали механизмы шторок, промыли в бензине и правильно смазали, потом собрали это назад, попав на те же зубья шестерней... В общем, пока затвор старой камеры не пришёл в состояние не хуже заводского - что либо регулировать это пустая трата времени.
На видео вы видите, как бежит щель по кадровому окну, причём вторая, шторка отстаёт от первой. Левая часть будет в этом случае переэкспонирована.

Poking around on a #repair of a very inexpensive Canon EOS 5 QD (film, equivalent to the Canon A2)

It runs very hot and drained a new battery in minutes; the flash capacitors test at a normal capacitance for the listed values, but this board (Canon part 1550 - DC/DC assembly) smells funky. Anyone know what the component 254 Yd- is? Position label on the board is PG.

The flash caps test normal, and we have spares for those anyway. The battery has shown at a normal level on other cameras which take the same type (Pentax SF7) so whatever is faulty on this board is causing the battery to discharge hard, with gradual recovery afterward.

If anyone knows anything which might help, please let me know <3

Unintentional diptych. The Balda Baldix 120 format folder fails to advance the film properly. I'm losing a lot of shots. Does anyone have experience with this camera? Is there a trick? Anyone know a good technician who can fix it? #photography #vintagecamera #camerarepair #mediumformat

I bought a broken, non-working Zorki-4 camera from 1964 for pennies. I decided it would be a good exhibit to start learning how to repair cameras.
Indeed, the camera is considered simple, its design is similar to the FED, Leica III, and many others. However, despite its simplicity, it took me a long time because, as Meisenberg writes in his book, "only those who understand how it works can set the slowdown escapement mechanism correctly." 😅
I had to disassemble it almost completely, except for removing the curtains—they seem to be intact, and I have nothing to replace them with anyway. That's the most difficult part of reassembly 🤷
The camera now works well, but the autocollimator shows that it never had the ability to focus on infinity (and, as a result, did not have the ability to focus accurately in the near field).
Most probably, this part is from another M39 camera, Zenit-C.
I made a possibly wrong decision to grind down the lens flange to reduce the working distance and achieve accurate focus.
In principle, I succeeded, although rather crudely, since without a micrometer and a lathe it is impossible to remove metal evenly with an accuracy of 0.01 mm. The lens sits with a small gap. I will fix this as soon as I get a micrometer.
Now I can focus normally, as confirmed by the matte glass and negatives.
It's a pity, really, that Soviet technology, even good technology (and this particular one was actually exported to East Germany), did not have sufficient quality control. Imagine, a person bought a good thing and used it for decades. Supposed that slight blurring in the photo is normal... It's not normal, it's a shameful defect.

P. S. If by chance you'll have to repair Industar or Tessar lens, there is a trick how to assemble aperture blades back. Assemble it not in the lens barrel but on the cover plate, located on a wine-bottle cork. Then accurately put the lens barrel on it and align the blades with a needle. Otherwise, this may take eternity....
I consider my repair experience to be successful and intend to continue. I remember my father trying to repair a Zorki-10, but in the end he took a bag of parts to the repair shop 🤣 Well, my father's karma is now destroyed.
