Black Nore Review

From 9am this morning, 'til into the evening, the Traditional Bampton Morris Dancers, the Bampton Traditional Morris Men and the Bampton Morris Men (I kid you not) have all strut their stuff in the gardens & public places of the small town of Bampton, West Oxfordshire.

I do not dance (not a local, lack of coordination, too uptight), but I do watch, wander, & wassail.

This may sound like your definition of hell, but I had a great time, thank you very much 😄

Imagine walking through all the accredited Walkers are Welcome Towns in the South West via Slow Ways? It's possible and I like the look of the trek across the Mendips from Cheddar to Keynsham.

My Move to the Mountains: Life in the Lake District (East)

Having lived at some stage in pretty much every corner of the UK, outdoor instructor Graham Uney finally settled in the Lowther Valley in the east of the Lake District for an 'exciting' job...

YDS professor Willie James Jennings will give Oxford University's Bampton Lectures for 2023.

He is the first African American to earn this distinction since the lecture series' inception in 1780.

Congratulations to Dr. Jennings!

The Bampton Lectures

The Bampton Lectures, founded by the will of the Revd John Bampton (1690-1751), first took place at the University Church in 1780. Over the centuries, these prestigious lectures - sometimes courting controversy, always intellectually stimulating - have covered a range of theological subjects. It is a condition of the Bampton Bequest that the lectures are published by the Lecturer. These lectures are delivered in the Trinity Term every year.
