The Australian public health system (aka "Medicare") does not currently have codes for (and hence pay for) gender transition surgery.

Gender incongruence is characterised by a marked and persistent difference between an individualÂŽs experienced gender and the assigned sex, which often leads to a desire to âtransitionâ, in order to live and be accepted as a person of the experienced gender."
There is an active proposal being considered to change that.
