With this year’s abundant rain, this delicate beauty thrives in still and slow-moving waters. Its finely divided underwater leaves and star-like white flowers support freshwater biodiversity, offering refuge to insects and small aquatic life. A quiet reminder that even the smallest plants play a big role in healthy ecosystems.

The biggest weed raft I've ever seen. Last week, photos of it were circulating in a group chat for boaters. I had to nudge through very slowly.
Too fast and it gets stuck under your boat. As it is, they lay across the bow and cause substantial drag.
Once through this mess, a short way past, I stopped, backed up a smidge to dislodge anything on the bow, and then carried on without it.

While you're in there, you may as well eat the water lilies. It must be a treat, or at least a change from grass.
But … these rather large animals trample the bank into the canal, making it even more shallow. Considerate farmers use fencing to prevent destruction of the canal bank. #JustSaying

Lily pads float on the surface of a pond, creating a striking contrast between the white leaves and the dark water. The natural arrangement of the lily pads forms an intricate, almost patterned display.
