Wenn Menschen als Familie zusammmenleben, die nicht biologisch verwandt sind, wird das heute oft als Patchworkfamilie bezeichnet. Genetische Analysen an Knochen, die aus 5000 Jahre alten Großsteingräbern im heutigen Niedersachsen, Hessen und Nordrhein-Westfalen stammen, zeigen: Auch damals war das Zusammenleben offenbar komplexer als bisher vermutet.

Die Analysen zeigen auch: Die Menschen der Jungsteinzeit waren deutlich mobiler als angenommen. So wurden in einem Beispiel ein Vater und ein Sohn fast 250 Kilometer voneinander entfernt bestattet.
