So I kinda launched my personal website yesterday and federated it with the activity pub wordpress plugin of @pfefferle

It works: @plunch but I dont understand it yet.

In wordpress I can approve replies and likes, but looking at the mastodon profile I cant see any replies.

Anyone knows why that is?

This is my first #Mastodon-powered fediverse server. _^

That means, https://aleph.land is one of the first and oldest Mastodon-based #Fediverse instance. _~

I occasionally log in here to keep it alive because this is historical and memorable for me. During this time, and before Mastodon was released, I was running my own Fediverse instance powered by #Hubzilla.

Back then, the protocol of the fediverse was #OpenMicroBlogging then #OStatus; #AcitivtyPub came years later.

Today, we have another federated protocol: #ATproto which is powering The #ATmosphere network (#Bluesky is just one instance).

(PS. Max chars in Aleph.Land is 1024; and using the #GlitchSoc fork since it came out.)

You can check out my first ever post using Mastodon here: https://aleph.land/@yahananxie/28062

Have you separated accounts for #mastodon and #lemmy? Why?

If you are new to the #Fediverse and you have seen people talk that #Mastodon have 10 million accounts/users…

At least according to #FediDB this is a false assumption.

The 10 million accounts/users is for the **entire** **Fediverse network**.

See: https://fedidb.org

Do not confuse the Fediverse with Mastodon, these are **not** interchangeable.

“Fediverse” is the name of the resulting network that grew out of the #AcitivtyPub (latest) / #OStatus (previous) / #OpenMicroBlogging (first) protocols.

While “Mastodon” is a software brand name / trademark.

It's the same with #Lemmy and #Kbin.

The label #Treadiverse is not interchangeable with the label Fediverse.

“Threadiverse” refers to the link-aggregator type of software like Lemmy and Kbin (there are others, check the Wikipedia list).

Threadiverse is part of the Fediverse network.

Coolness? Awesome!

This article from #ManilaBulletin is much better and more accurate.

The Professor even mentioned #Pleroma, #Misskey, #PixelFed, #PeerTube, #MicroBlog, as well as, #WordPress with an #AcitivtyPub plugin.

I still hear a lot about how the term #Fediverse is not catchy, and have the first impression of “The Feds”. Maybe it's time to use a new label?

(please boost/reshare, thank you!)

(Poll will end after 7 days. You can select multiple answers.)

A little context:

* Federated #SNS first came online in 2008, with the platform known as identica (today known as #GNUsocial)
* The Fediverse was called as #identiverse back then.
* Other federated SNS platforms publicly launched in 2010, like Friendika (originally MistPark, and now as #Friendica); and #diaspora, to mention two.
* Someone suggested using a new term instead of “identiverse”.
* “Fediverse” was floated sometime 2010–2012, and the rest is #history. (aside: If I remember correctly, diaspora came up with “The Fediverse” first, or it was inspired by “Fediverse”?)

That was us when the federated SNS was mainly techies. Ten years later, I think it is safe to say that the landscape has changed considerably.

Perhaps, let's see what the larger federated SNS feels and thinks about it, we need to find a more non-techie label for the federated SNS network (using the #AcitivtyPub protocol).

The one and only rule is this, stay away from BRAND-based labels.

@[email protected] I think it has to do with the fact that Mastodon is a way more catchy name than Fediverse. Pleroma sounds a bit like Pneumonia so I don't think it's the most catchy either 😂. Maybe we need a new name for Fediverse? Flocks? Ganggang (a type of Cockatoo in Wiradjuri language)? Torinet (tori is a bird in Japanese) - sounds a bit like Clarinet ☺️

@trwnh I think there's a bit of difference here. I can see a generic #ActivityStreams library working for both the client and server and then a Web-specific server in #AcitivtyPub and a client for the desktop.
