anyone know of any good free checking accounts? my current checking account recently instituted a $5/month charge and this is as good a time as any to move off, but idk what my other options are.
my main considerations are:
- no fees
- no interest
- a website that doesn't suck
weird problem with wayland + mutter where exactly 2 overlays and nowhere else seem to think i am hovering about 50-100 pixels vertically above my mouse, but only while i am inside that overlay's bounds:
- firefox click-and-hold on the back button
- steam overlay in-game with shift+tab
the firefox one stops happening when i launch it with MOZ_ENABLE_WAYLAND=0
the steam overlay one i haven't managed to fix
why does this matter?
when the focus is on the thoroughly debunked view that "all people" are a certain way, prone to overconsumption and "rational self maximization", you're not only wrong but also impotent. there just isn't much to do. if the problem really is "human nature" then we're cooked and may as well give up.
if we accept instead, as I'm pointing out, that projects with aspirations of egalitarianism and freely shared resources can succeed but *will come under external attack by the forces of capital, the state, and the defenders of hierarchy* we are not only in alignment with history but we are no longer helpless. we have something to defend, something worth fighting for.
in the history of anarchism this defense manifested as militias. I don't know what the equivalent is for foss, the open web, and open computing in general, but we should probably figure that out.

so basically our water company announced 10 days ago it was going to stop fluoridating our water, effective as of... 2 years ago
city sued the water company, judge ordered them to start fluoridating again, and of course anyone whose dental health worsened in the past 2 years is just written off
