Not sure how many folks on here are going to be around, but I’m at AALS in DC from this afternoon through Saturday and would love to catch up with people! Especially if you’re down for a walk or other lower Covid risk activity. #aals
#LawProfs: On my way to #aals2024 Would love to meet up with folks in town ☕️ Say hi if you’ll be there! #AALS

Had a blast at the #AALS annual meeting, my first in-person. Sat on three panels discussing such topics as #cyber #legal #pedagogy, internet regulation in wartime and #internationallaw & #digital #rights as a #nationalsecurity issue. More importantly got to see many good friends & made a ton of new ones!

Earlier this week, there were a few posts about the big turnout at the #AALS2023 session on the future of law school rankings.

What did folks who attended think were the key takeaways?

If competition is key to reducing US News' influence, does anyone foresee another news outlet taking advantage of the fact that all the public data US News has said it will rely upon in its next edition is already available? As we've demonstrated, wouldn't be hard:

Just arriving at Dulles to head out to #aals. Please say hello if you see me wandering lost in the halls!

@AmyLanders

Did anyone ask why — given that all the public data US News has said it will rely upon in its next edition is already available — anyone should wait for Bob Morse to decide how to weigh it?

Here's one ranking utilizing the data, along with an explanation of the weights given to different metrics. Others could take same data, give different weights, and also produce rankings more informed than US News.

What to say to students discouraged about the court? Sotomayor— the fight. Lawyers change institutions to make them more responsive to people. Lawyers mount and force society to recognize rights. People have lost their lives for civil rights. If others can give their life, we don’t have the right to despair. #AALS
Sotomayor— every case before the US Ct is a “grey area” case. and every one of them is hard. #AALS
Sotomayor is still a “lawyer’s judge” but has learned to overlay policies that reflect the human condition #AALS
